CThe Development, Environment and Transport Committee ('DETC')
Councillors appointed to this committee are: Mrs Hall (Chairman), Messrs Irwin, Thompson, Whitby, and Burrows (ex officio).
The Parish Council receives and considers all Planning Applications relating to the Parish. Recommendations from the Council either in support of the application or as objections, are passed to East Suffolk Council who, as the local Planning Authority, take note of these comments in their determination of the application. A full list of planning applications considered by the Parish Council can be viewed on our Latest Planning Applications page
Why do we spend time and effort having a DET Committee?
- The DETC, taking your views into account, works with East Suffolk Council to help guide and influence local planning policy affecting the Parish
- We raise awareness with Parishioners of major planning applications and their significance and implications for the Parish
- We reference the Martlesham Neighbourhood Plan as a vital piece of local planning policy
- Committee members have local knowledge and can make useful comments in terms of style, appropriate materials, traffic issues, material considerations, and generally help ensure that development which does take place is better suited to our Parish
- The Parish Council can assist Parishioners in understanding the planning process and valid reasons (called 'material considerations') informing decisions
- Our DETC has good grass roots knowledge on what is permitted development and what isn't
- Where we can, we work with the District Council enforcement team on gross infringements of planning regulations.
The Parish Council continuously liaises with the local highway authority on matters such as road conditions and cleaning, parking, signposting etc. We successfully lobby for pedestrian crossings, invest in speed and traffic noise and pollution measuring equipment, and push at planning enquiries and in consultation responses for planners to take action against traffic issues on the A12 and at the retail parks.
These reasons for having a committee are tested by the current enthusiasm for major development at Martlesham. There is a great deal to review in relation to the many developments being proposed for Martlesham and the wider Energy Coast Projects which directly affect the Parish.
