Junior Road Safety Officers at Birchwood School
We visited Birchwood School recently with a Suffolk County Council Road Safety Officer in order to meet the Junior Road Safety Officers. The children (all aged 10) have been working on issues connected with inconsiderate parking and are learning the road safety consequences of this.
We chatted about speeding drivers and explained the findings behind our traffic data for their area. We told them about our proposed electronic speeding device and we shared views on how it could help. It was lovely to hear the children’s insight into this – they really do seem to understand the concept.
They are also working on a “Park and Stride” initiative. What a sensible idea. This would help in so many ways with the common problem of parents and carers parking on pavements etc and idling engines next to the schools.
The visit taught us about the Junior Road Safety Officer Scheme which we very much support.
